Songs of Solomon: WHAT ON EARTH DID GOD HAVE IN MIND?

‘…Songs of Solomon; some part of it emphasized most on what I call lustful statements…’ 😞

I’ve not gotten over that comment since I read it; a facebook friend asked on his timeline that people share books of the bible seemingly difficult to read, then someone muted Songs of Solomon because it emphasises lustful statements…now this got me probing. Granted Songs of Solomon is graphic in the expressions of love but what did God have in in mind by allowing in it the bible? Is it a mistake? Is the book bad? Can we use it in daily life? What are the lessons therein?

This summary from biblehub.com captures the entire Songs of Solomon text. It describes the Songs of Solomon is a large love poem filled with smaller poems of different kinds. Solomon is the author and he wrote it sometime during his reign 970-930 B.C. It is a story of a bridegroom who is in love with his bride. Key personalities are King Solomon, the Shulammite girl, and friends.

The story greatly emphasizes the sanctity of marriage and that it is designed, blessed and consecrated in the eyes of the Lord. The purpose of “Song of Songs”, as it is also called, is a picture of God’s love for His people. Although there is explicit sexual content, it is a book in which we can learn the depths of God’s authentic love for us and what should be in the sacredness of marriage.

I think some couples should start using more SOS language in their relationship, use it for devotion too. Those guys who have challenges wooing that dream lady in church...those ladies who feel they don't have love streak...this is your chance for a revival...lol. No need to wait till special seasons in the year, everyday is a love day , as long as God lives. He's love anyway, you get right #wink

God allowed it in the bible for a reason. The bible gives us what we need for life and godliness, everyday living and interaction with people and that's the worry, we spiritualise everything to the detriment of many other things. If all the men and women expressed love to their spouse like the SOS poem perhaps the chance of divorce, dysfunctional homes and other family issues will be cut down. God is love and is interested in us having a well-rounded life, especially in families. The family is so key, the bedrock of society and God instituted it for good reason. Love is a cord that if harnessed can keep every negative out of our lives and society, including the devil.

Before I go, I just want to say I really do Love you, you are special. You’re special not just because you’re a human being or higher animal (scientists say); I love you without reason, it’s natural to simply love you because the share the same essence, a bit of GOD in us, we are embodiments of Love. I love you.- Beryl

What do you think God had in mind with Songs of Solomon?
